ROH Dips Toe into Musicals with Sondheim???

The Royal Opera House could kick off its ventures into the realms of musical theatre with a production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. Rumours that the musical about the �demon barber of Fleet Street� could be staged at the newly refurbished Opera House follow swiftly on the heels of a BBC interview in which the new musical director, Antonio Pappano, was quoted as saying he was a big fan of musical theatre and that he saw his role to expand the remit of the Opera House, which is often accused of being rather stuffy and expensive.
