Brown Tips Last Five Years for London???Date: 27 August 2002 London interest in the work of Jason Robert Brown is riding high. The American composer acted as musical director – and provider of two numbers - for Philip Quast during his stint as last week’s Diva at the Donmar and, on Sunday night, hosted a benefit performance to raise funds for the Bridewell Theatre, the tiny London venue which has previously staged the UK premiere of his Songs for a New World. Both engagements were sell-outs with theatregoers queuing down the street for returns to the latter, at which Brown was joined on stage by Golda Roshuevel, Jenna Russell and South Pacific’s Lauren Kennedy. Together, Kennedy and Brown performed excerpts from his poignant song cycle about the disintegration of a marriage, The Last Five Years, to enthusiastic applause. The Tony Award winner hopes the show, which played earlier this year Off-Broadway, will soon find a London home, perhaps at the Bridewell, with an eye to a commercial run elsewhere.
