Lloyd Webber Makes Music in a Different Palace???Date: 27 August 2002Andrew Lloyd Webber's revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music is on target for an early 2003 West End opening, but it's now looking unlikely to find a home in one of Lloyd Webber's own Really Useful theatres. Comments attributed to Andrew Lloyd Webber in the Daily Mail - in which he named RUT's Palace Theatre, home to Les Miserables for 16 years, as his preferred home for Maria and the Von Trapp children - provoked a flurry of confusion and concern at the offices of producer Cameron Mackintosh who said they had no intention of closing their revolutionary blockbuster. Now it looks like Lloyd Webber could be moving The Sound of Music into a different palace altogether - the Victoria Palace. Vacated prematurely this weekend by Kiss Me Kate, the theatre will host the West End return of Grease from 26 September 2002 to 1 March 2003. It's thought that The Sound of Music will then strike a chord there in the spring. Related Content |
