Piece of Piss Musical Targets London???Date: 21 August 2002The Tony award-winning Broadway musical Urinetown is setting its sights on London town. Set in a town where residents must "pay to pee" due to a disastrous drought, Urinetown is musical comedy that satirises the likes of Brecht and various musical theatre conventions. The show won three Tonys this year, including the awards for Best Score (by Mark Holman and Greg Kotis) and Best Book (Kotis). The London transfer will be handled by Stage Holding, the company, newly established in the UK, which is also behind the transfer fellow Tony winner, Contact, opening at the Queen's Theatre in October. Stage Holding's Joop Van den Ende, most famous as the Dutch creator of TV's Big Brother, recently told The Stage newspaper that he intends to take a leaf out of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh's book by buying a West End theatre to house his shows.
