Krakowkski Prefers Anything to Fuddy???Date: 16 August 2002According to today's Daily Mail, outgoing artistic director Trevor Nunn will indeed revive Cole Porter's Anything Goes for the National's Christmas musical, opening at the Olivier in December 2002 (See The Goss, 5 Aug 02). However, columnist Baz Bamigboye's tip for who will star as singer-turned-evangelist Reno Sweeney has surprised many - he's named Ally McBeal star Jane Krakowski for the part. The American actress was meant to make her West End debut this October in the on-again, off-again transfer of absurdist comedy Fuddy Meers. London producers called the show off for good earlier this month due, supposedly, to Krakowski's schedule on Broadway, where in February 2003, she is due to appear opposite Antonio Banderas in the musical Nine. Rehearsals for that would be in full swing at just the time Krakowski is rumoured to be staging Anything Goes in London. Now that would be a neat trick. A National spokeswoman told Whatsonstage.com this morning that the Porter musical, as well as a Nunn production of Love's Labour's Lost in early 2003, are in fact "very very likely", with final confirmation expected soon - however, any casting decisions were purely "speculative". Other names previously mentioned in connection with the show have included Hollywood's Robert Downey Jr and Susan Sarandon, the latter currently appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe with her husband Tim Robbins in the 11 September-inspired The Guys.
