Israeli Protests Fuel Palestine Success???Date: 23 July 2002Pro-Israeli groups have been protesting the London return of Palestinian theatre group Al-Kasaba (See News, 8 Jul 02). At last night's press performance of their show, Alive from Palestine, demonstrators chanted, waved banners and handed out leaflets (entitled "The Self-Inflicted Problems of the Arab Palestinians") to attending journalists and dignitaries, such as the Palestinian ambassador to London and the actress Vanessa Redgrave, who has helped raise funds for the season. However, their actions don't seem to have diminished the enthusiasm of either the critics (who have raved) or audiences (who have ensured that the entire run was sold out before a single review was printed). Three extra performances have now been added to Al-Kasaba's limited season, to 27 July 2002 at the Young Vic. Performed in Arabic with English surtitles, tells the behind-the-headlines stories of everyday Palestinians. Related Content |
