DiCaprio & Maguire in Our Youth? Nothing New There!

Date: 17 July 2002

This Whatsonstage.com weasel was amused to see US industry bible Variety "break" the story this week that Titanic's Leonardo DiCaprio and current Spider Man Tobey Maguire are considering treading the West End boards in a resurrection of Kenneth Lonergan's This Is Our Youth - a celebrity titbit that was quickly picked up by myriad national and international press. Dedicated followers of The Goss won't be surprised, of course. We reported the development here nearly three weeks ago (see 27 Jun 02)! Producers are now saying that they hope to finalise casting within the next month, with new rehearsals starting in September. The London production of the American three-hander finished its first limited season at the Garrick Theatre in mid-June, having attracted two lots of Hollywood young guns - Hayden Christensen, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anna Paquin, followed by Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix. As for the wider media's latest scoop about DiCaprio and Maguire, we can only assume that some subscribers didn't read their Whatsonstage.com newsletter in a terribly timely fashion!
