Brooks Tips Lane & Broderick for London Producers???Date: 19 June 2002With earlier reports that UK producers for the planned transfer of hit Broadway musical The Producers were considering jacking top ticket prices up to £50 a pop, the speculation was that they must be confident of casting some big names with extraordinary pulling power to get audiences to part with that kind of money. And if US reports in this week's Variety are correct, well, the names in this instance don't get much bigger - the stage production's original American stars, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Mel Brooks, who created the 1968 film classic from which the musical is adapted, has told the entertainment industry newspaper that the pair will reunite for a six-month run in London. That's the good news. The bad news is that Brooks has also indicated yet another delay, setting the expected opening date as either December 2003 or January 2004. When the transfer was first mooted last summer, David Ian, heading the UK production team, predicted that the show would open here at the start of 2003, while last month that was pushed back to autumn 2003.
