Hytner Sees Future for Lyttelton Loft???Date: 17 June 2002The National Theatre's artistic director-designate has publicly indicated that he does plan to resurrect the Lyttelton Loft. The intimate 100-seat space has been created for the National's current five-month Transformation season, in which 13 new works, staged in the Loft and the scaled-down main-house Lyttelton, are receiving premieres. Hytner told The Stage newspaper, "The Loft is coming down in October so it won't be here when I come (he takes over from Trevor Nunn in April 2003). But it's a terrific kit to have and, when there are plays that can be done in the Loft, then the Loft will come back." Hytner also confirmed his plans to adapt Philip Pullman's trilogy of children's books, Dark Materials next year as well as possibly a new play by Mark Ravenhill. Related Content |
