Dore Delays Arsenic, Plans Ahead for Lullaby??? Date: 16 May 2002
Producer Katharine Dore's West End revival of Joseph Kesselring's 1940s Broadway hit Arsenic and Old Lace has been postponed, apparently due to problems with casting the little old ladies who poison pensioners and bury them in the basement of their Victorian home in Brooklyn. The wicked comedy was touted for a summer berth at the Strand Theatre where it first ran for a record-breaking 1,337 performances from December 1942. However, as reported in last week's News, that theatre has now been filled with tribute band Abbamania, booking through October 2002. Despite the Arsenic delay, Dore remains busy. In addition to her Kathy Burke-directed one-woman show Betty, opening at the Vaudeville in July, the former Adventures in Motion Pictures co-founder has plans to produce Zydeco Lullaby, a new play by Alan Franks whose previous works include The Mother Tongue.
