Taboo No Laughing Matter for Julian & Madonna???Date: 26 April 2002At last night's Whatsonstage.com Outing to Taboo, composer and soon-to-be star of the musical Boy George stayed on after the show to talk exclusively to our Group. In a highly enlightening and entertaining discussion, George spoke frankly about his life, career and, of course, the show itself - including his own imminent stage debut as Leigh Bowery, the part currently played by Matt Lucas. He also answered questions about Julian Clary joining the cast, expressing some surprise at the rumour which, he says, he too found about when reading The Stage. Although George was unable to confirm the casting, he related a story about being mistaken for the camp comedian. Despite the singer's denials, a fan in Bournemouth was so convinced George was Julian that the only way he could escape was by granting her "Clary's" autograph. George also raised a few wry smiles with his sideswipes at Madonna - not least that the greatest press of his career was ranking one above her in a recent NME poll. Earlier this week, it emerged that Madonna was threatening to sue George for the inclusion and alteration of lyrics from her 1980s hit "Vogue" in Taboo. She was allegedly upset at the line "Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, that Madonna dyes her hair", which has now been removed from the show. Look out for an edited transcript of the Whatsonstage.com Q&A with Boy George, which will be published on the site shortly. Related Content |
