The Real Boy Joins His Stage Twin in Taboo???

Date: 2 April 2002

Having earned his stripes composing for a stage musical, pop star Boy George is apparently about to make his debut on the acting front too. He's expected to join the cast of his own musical, Taboo, playing at The Venue, Leicester Square. The show is a fictional love story that unfolds against the 1980s London club scene where George himself rose to fame - and then quickly fell from grace - in his Culture Club heyday. Boy George is also a character in the play (currently portrayed by doppelganger Euan Morton), but he won't be playing himself. Instead, he's tipped to take over from Matt Lucas, whose contract as larger-than-life performance artist Leigh Bowery finishes at the end of April. Born George Alan O'Dowd in 1961, Boy George became internationally famous as the androgynous and behatted lead singer of Culture Club. He has sold over 30 million records worldwide, including hit singles such as "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?", "I'll Tumble for Ya", "The War Song" and "Church of the Poisoned Mind". In addition to his stage projects, he now works as a club and radio DJ and television presenter.
