Goodman Joins Producers on Broadway...& in West End???Date: 6 February 2002 Our very own British stage star Henry Goodman has been confirmed to take over from Nathan Lane as Max Bialystock in Mel Brooks' hit Broadway production of The Producers. Goodman - who, in a Whatsonstage.com 20 Questions interview last year said The Producers' lead would be one of his dream roles (along with Faustus) - will start performances in New York on 19 March and there's speculation that he will accompany the show on its West End transfer, planned for 2003. It has not yet been confirmed who'll play alongside Goodman in the New York Producers - Lane and current co-star Matthew Broderick, who plays Leo Bloom, finish their contracts on 17 March - though British actor and comedian Frank Skinner's name has been mentioned in connection with the role of Bloom for the UK production. The Producers has become the hottest, and most expensive, ticket on Broadway with seats for its sell-out performances changing hands for several hundreds of dollars apiece. It swept the board at last year's Tonys, scooping 12 awards including Best Musical. The Olivier Award-winning Goodman's many stage credits include Guys and Dolls, Chicago, The Merchant of Venice and the political satire Feelgood.
