Grandage Considers Donmar-Sheffield Transfers???Date: 23 January 2002Michael Grandage's first public engagement as the Donmar Warehouse's artistic director-designate was with Whatsonstage.com! The director, whose production of Privates on Parade is currently playing to full houses at the theatre, spoke to a nearly 100-strong Whatsonstage.com Group Outing in an exclusive Q&A session after last night's performance. And guess what the question on everyone's mind was - what were his future plans for the Donmar? "I can see all sorts of possibilities," Grandage enthused, while keeping his cards close to his chest, saying that he needed to share plans internally first. He did reveal that, though it wasn't in the brief, he wouldn't rule out the possibility of transfers between the Donmar and the Sheffield Crucible, where Grandage will remain an associate director. Could that include a London berth for his sell-out production of Richard III with Kenneth Branagh in the title role? We live in hope! Grandage also stated that the Donmar was the most exciting theatre he'd ever worked in and that, as such, recent vacancies at the Almeida and Hampstead Theatres - for which, according to some speculation, he was considered a candidate - had held no attraction.
