NT's South Pacific Sets Sail for West End???Date: 15 January 2002Rumours are circulating that Trevor Nunn's reinterpretation of South Pacific could follow previous National Theatre, big-budget musical revivals into a West End transfer. Nunn's Oklahoma! and My Fair Lady have scored big in the commercial sector - the former is about to open on Broadway and the latter continues to run at the West End's Theatre Royal Drury Lane. South Pacific, Rodgers and Hammerstein's World War II love story, opened to generally good reviews at the NT's Olivier Theatre on 12 December 2001 (previews from 3 December), with a cast led by veteran Philip Quast. It continues to play there until 27 April 2002, following which a summertime transfer come June may be on the cards. The West End's Shaftesbury Theatre, where South African song and dance show Umoja has just extended its run through late May, has been suggested as a possible venue. Related Content |
