My Fair Lady Considers House Move???Date: 28 December 2001My Fair Lady now has a new leading lady in Joanna Riding and will soon have a new leading man in Alex Jennings (who makes his musical debut in April, replacing Jonathan Pryce as Professor Henry Higgins) - could it have a new home before long too? Trevor Nunn's hit revival of Lerner and Loewe's classic musical started life in a sell-out run at the NT Lyttelton before transferring to the West End's Theatre Royal Drury Lane in July 2001. Producer Cameron Mackintosh recently revealed that the production had recouped its entire capitalisaton in a record-breaking 18 weeks, despite the downturn in trade created by foot-and-mouth and 11 September terrorist attacks. Despite this success, there are rumours that a slimmed down My Fair Lady might emulate Mackintosh's previous production at the huge 2,100-seat Drury Lane, The Witches of Eastwick, in relocating to a smaller venue. After six months at the Drury Lane, Witches transferred to the 1,100-capacity Prince of Wales, where it closed on 27 October. Related Content |
