Starlight Express Pulls Out the Big Top???Date: 6 December 2001Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express, the second longest- running musical in West End history, could skate straight into a new mobile life after it finishes its 17-year run at the West End's Apollo Victoria on 12 January 2002. Plans are apparently afoot for adopting a Cirque du Soleil big-top approach on the grounds of London's derelict Battersea Power Station. When Starlight's closure was confirmed back in August, it was announced that a national tour (as well as a TV series) would soon be launched. Now it looks like that tour may start on the south bank of the Thames. For its hit show Quidam, Cirque du Soleil has erected a 2,500-seat capacity "Grand Chapiteau" circus tent on the grounds of the Battersea Power Station, where that show is now having its second run. A version of Starlight has been running in Bochum, Germany in a purpose-built arena for over a decade. Related Content |
