Unknown Strikes it Big in Bombay???Date: 31 October 2001 While other big-budget London musicals fish in the same small pool for high-profile female leads, Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Bombay Dreams seems to be taking a different tack, having reportedly cast as its star an unheard-of 21-year-old who has never before appeared in the West End. Preeya Kalidas, raised in Twickenham, is said to be the lady who could in fact be three times lucky - with parts also clinched in two forthcoming Bollywood feature films. Lloyd-Webber's stage musical is itself inspired by Bollywood, centring on a young Indian man with movie aspirations who moves to Bombay. Bombay Dreams is a collaboration between Lloyd-Webber, Indian musician AR Rehman and filmmaker Shekhar "Elizabeth" Kapur. The musical is due to open in June 2002 at the Apollo Victoria, where Lloyd-Webber's Starlight Express skates out, after 17 years, in January 2002. No further cast details have been released.
