Where & When Will West End One & Only Land???

Date: 22 October 2001

A London transfer for Chichester Festival's recent production of My One and Only has been confirmed this week. It will open in the West End in February 2002. Now it's just the minor details of exactly when and where that still need to be worked out. Earlier this month, word had it that the musical, which stars Janie Dee and Tim Flavin, would move into the Albery Theatre after Private Lives finishes its limited run in January. But that seems to have gone a bit iffy. A spokesperson told Whatsontage.com that My One and Only's London home would definitely be at one of Ambassadors Theatre Group's (ATG) venues in the West End. In addition to the Albery, those include the Piccadilly, Comedy, Phoenix, New Ambassadors, Duke of York's, Wyndham's and Whitehall Theatres. Previously a hit on Broadway, My One and Only received its UK debut in Chichester this summer. The musical is based on the original 1927 show, Funny Face, and features an array of song and dance pieces that were written and choreographed for Fred and Adele Astaire. The story concerns a daredevil aviator who attempts to become the first pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic. The Chichester production is directed by Loveday Ingram.
