My Fair Martine in No-Show Relapse???
Date: 11 October 2001
Martine McCutcheon's initial National Theatre run as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady became famous more for McCutcheon's number of illness-related absences as her rave reviews. But since the Trevor Nunn-directed musical transferred to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in July, McCutcheon seemed to be settling more reliably into the role, especially after officially cutting down to six rather than eight shows a week. Until recently, that is. Last week, McCutcheon was on a pre-announced holiday, but she was also off the week before that due to sickness. And this week she's unwell again. The box office is reporting, hopefully, that she'll be back by the weekend. In any case, no exchanges or refunds are being offered to theatregoers who booked expecting to see the former soap star.
