Resurrection for Flockhart's Philadelphia Story???Date: 17 October 2001 What's ever become of the plans for the Calista "Ally McBeal" Flockhart-fronted revival of The Philadelphia Story? The much-anticipated production had dates and West End venue (the Shaftesbury) all confirmed for a limited run last June, but the plug was pulled at the last minute. At the time, producers emphasised that it was definitely a postponement rather than a cancellation, citing timing conflicts with the General Election coupled with the tourist fall-out from the foot-and-mouth outbreak. Now a production insider has told Whatsonstage.com that resurrection is increasingly less likely and, if the project does go ahead, it may well start life in the US rather than London. As always, the casting will be key. Recently, Flockhart revealed her plans to abandon her hit TV show within two years. But rather than being fuelled by a desire to spend more time on stage, where the actress' career first flourished, she said her decision to quit was down to family matters. She would like to spend more time with her recently adopted son, Liam.
