Hytner Confirmed as Nunn Successor at NT???Date: 24 September 2001Several newspapers have reported this weekend that Nicholas Hytner will definitely take over from Trevor Nunn as artistic director of the National Theatre when Nunn's five-year contract next September. For several months, Hytner has been the perceived frontrunner in a long list which included the likes of Sam Mendes, Stephen Daldry and Jonathan Kent and a shortlist, reportedly compiled last month, which also numbered Jude Kelly, Max Stafford-Clark, John Caird and Howard Davies. An accomplished director of both stage and screen, Hytner is already a regular at the National where his credits have included The Madness of George III, The Recruiting Officer and, currently, Mark Ravenhill's Mother Clap's Molly House.
