Five Reasons To See ... Asylum of Grace

New play, Asylum of Grace is making a return visit to Manchester next month at the Three Minute Theatre. We caught up with the writer, Neil Ely to see what's in store for the audience.

1. It's based on a true story.                       
The inspiration to write this script came to me from my mother, and is inspired by true events that happened while she was living in Eastbourne. My mother wrote a poem called institutionalised about time she spent on a psychiatric unit during the 1980s suffering from post natal depression, after giving birth to me.  After reading a poem she wrote about this time in her life and speaking to my mother about experiences on the unit it inspired me to write this powerful story.                                                

2. Independent Choices Charity and International Womens week.
Asylum of Grace is supporting Independent choices, a women’s domestic abuse charity.  £1 from each ticket will be donated to this charity. Independent Choices was founded in 1978 as the Women's Domestic Violence Helpline. Their services were developed in the mid 1990’s into a multi-project organisation. They are based in Greater Manchester. Asylum of Grace will be showing on the 8th March, which is the official international women’s day.

3. The Production team and cast
Asylum of Grace is brought to you by Lem Productions set up by Lloyd Eyre-Morgan (Director). Lloyd Eyre-Morgan has had 5 sell out plays produced in Manchester including Dream On, Celluloid and most recently Shades of Diva and co founded and set up the successful  theatre festival Queer as Fringe. He has recently adapted his play Dream On into a feature film which has been picked up for general distribution by TLA Releasing, set for a UK release next year.
 
4.  Great Reviews. 
The show received a great reception when it was first performed in March. “Asylum of Grace is a brilliantly written play with deft change in pitch, capturing the dynamics of transition by characters through moments of their lives, and leaves us with a feeling of richness and robustness in being able to deal with what life throws at us..” – Manchester Salon. “Engaging, disturbing and incredibly touching piece.”- Remote Goat 5 stars.

5. Manchester’s home of new writing.
Asylum of Grace will is at The Three Minute Theatre, a fantastic theatre space in central Manchester dedicated to promoting and producing new and original work. Lloyd Eyre-Morgan is an associate of The Three Minute Theatre and has a strong working relationship with the theatre. The theatre is run by Gina Frost and John Topliff and with over 60 years performance experience between them are fully equipped to run what is becoming a new hotspot for emerging theatre and local talent.
