Five Reasons To See....No Idea at the Royal Exchange

Date: 8 April 2010

Lisa Hammond and Rachael Spence star in the touring production of No Idea presented with Improbable, which opens next week at the Royal Exchange Theatre. Here, Lisa and Rachael give us their five reasons to see this hilarious new devised play.

1. Why We Made the Show:
After years working in various companies such as the RSC, Told by an Idiot, Improbable and the National, we just wanted to make a show ourselves, except that we didn’t have any ideas about what it was going to be about. We really wanted to work together, and do it on our own for a change, so that’s where the show came from.

2. The Story:
We went out on to the streets and asked the great British public to come up for a story for us, just from chatting and looking at us. Some of their answers were pretty random (and for some reason most of the time they thought we were students!!)  but we did find a story in the end... kind of.

3. The Team:
It’s directed by Improbable co-Artistic Director Lee Simpson, with design from Linbury winner Ben Stones, lighting by Colin Grenfell and sound by Gareth Fry. What an A star team!

4. The Comedy factor:
It’s been a very fun and very funny creative process, especially working with Lee Simpson who is a regular at the Comedy Store and is about to tour with Paul Merton!

5. And Finally:
Ultimately, No Idea is about friendship. We created this show because we’re really good mates and after everything, it’s been a really amazing journey.

No Idea is at the Royal Exchange from 15 - 17 April. To book or to view extracts, click here.
