Show pics: Waddingham, Bourne & Garcia in Kiss Me Kate

Date: 27 June 2012

Kiss Me Kate opens tonight (27 June 2012, previews from 18 June) at the Chicester Festival Theatre. The Tony-Award winning musical has been revived by Trevor Nunn and runs as part of the Chichester Festival’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The musical, based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, focuses on two gangsters despatched to extract a debt from the leading man of a musical. They arrive on opening night, in the middle of an argument between the show’s stars and end up on stage.

Hannah Waddingham, winner of the 2012 Whatsonstage Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical (The Wizard of Oz), plays Lilli/Kate. Alex Bourne is taking on the role of Fred Graham/Petruchio and Adam Garcia joins him as Bill Calhoun. David Burt and Clive Rowe round out the cast as Gangster 1 and Gangster 2.

Following its run in Chichester Kiss Me Kate transfers to the Old Vic in London, where it opens on 20 November 2012.
