The strongest, soundest, bravest show to hit town? - Yes, it’s that time of year when those lovely folk over at the Menier Chocolate Factory treat the West End to another hit revival and this Sweet Charity is better than ever and bold as brass to boot. Featuring the glorious Tamzin Outhwaite as Charity Hope Valentine and a stellar ensemble, this show can only get better in a bigger space and I urge you to hit the floor and crawl to Daddy to book tickets. The Rich Man’s Frug is worth double the ticket price alone!

ENO: Gone fishing - Making her return to ENO and perhaps the first ‘opera video pick’ for quite some time, Penny Woolcock is turning her hand to Bizet's early masterpiece, The Pearl Fishers, a real gem of 19th-century French opera, in order to give it a truly epic outing when it hits the Coliseum stage later this year. Famed for her outstanding film-making, and with Tony Award winning tenor Alfie Boe playing Nadir, Woolcock’s new production will undoubtedly hit all the right notes. Here, she discusses her interest in the piece and some of the memorable musical moments.

Secrets under the sea - Currently playing at the Young Vic and enjoying rave reviews, Kursk tells the tragic story of the Russian submarine that in 2000 suffered a huge explosion that ripped the bow apart and sent the vessel to the seabed. Contained in the submarine space, the audience are silent observers to the events as they unfold, complicit to the world of secrecy and codes, witnesses to the last minutes of the ill-fated vessel. A shocking story told in a totally immersive environment – this production really is one of a kind, with the ‘Sound&Fury’ team in full force with award-winning writer Bryony Lavery.

The return of the Fingers… - Regular WOS readers will know I’m a big fan of contemporary circus troupe The 7 Fingers (Les 7 Doigts de la Main) and so it will come as no surprise that I flag up their latest piece, Psy, heading to the Peacock theatre in a few weeks. Inspired by the rich and surreal world of the human psyche, I can write nothing here that will convince you to see this incredible piece of work other than watch this clip. And then watch it again to check you didn’t make it up.
