New drama double bill at the Tobacco Factory

Date: 5 May 2010

The Tobacco Factory are to play host to two thought-provoking comedy dramas from one of Bristol’s newest theatre companies, About Time Two! at the venue's new studio theatre, The Brewery, presented as a double bill.

Both plays, written and directed by Felicity Gibson, pose the same question: “What gets us through life when the chips are down”? Each tells their own story with clarity, humour and precision, dealing with difficult issues and strong characters, exploring the darker side of human nature, with kind and also cruel humour.

The Self Help Group provides the opportunity to look in on the first meeting of a group of people who have come along to improve their lives. Some need a little straightening out and others need much more than cosmetic surgery for the soul to deal with their painful, even dangerous, lives.

Kurt Cobain’s In My Cupboard tells the tale of James, a youth stumbling towards maturity, about to hear some devastating news. His decisions over the following years are shaped by his own thoughts and feelings and his responses to those of his family, girl friends … and Kurt Cobain of course. The tears and laughter are complemented with a soundtrack of Cool Britannia and Indie (with a bit of grunge thrown in…) from Blur to The Smiths to Billy Bragg.

These hard hitting plays promise to introduce us to people we’ve known, people we’d love to have known, and people we’d cross the street to avoid.

The Brewery, at The Tobacco Factory from 9 - 20 June.
