Based on the Paramount Pictures Film by Tom Hedley. Set in Pittsburgh, USA, Flashdance tells the story of 18 year old Alex, a welder by day and 'flashdancer' by night, whose dream is to obtain a place at the prestigious Shipley Academy. This musical about holding on to your dreams and love against all the odds features an iconic score including Maniac, Manhunt, Gloria, I Love Rock and Roll and the Academy award-winning title track Flashdance -What a Feeling.
The musical journeys back to the very beginning of time. It is a classic re-telling of the well-known story of Adam and Eve, and their tragic fall from Paradise. Heaven on Earth is an exhilarating story of love, loss, and redemption, and an exploration of the universal search for the meaning of life. This brand new musical, and its original emotive songs, will resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds, and stay with the audience long after they view this thrilling and visual treat of a production.
This is a huge production which will see the Garden of Eden created in all its magnificent glory and a whole host of special effects including fire, water and animatronics.
Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table and features a bevy (or possibly a brace) of beautiful show girls, witch burnings (Cancelled too expensive) not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. The show features the hilarious songs He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights Of The Round Table, Find Your Grail and of course the Nation's Favourite Comedy Song (Reader’s Digest Poll 2009) Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.
This highly contemporary reworking of The Wizard of Oz stays closely to the much loved story as Dorothy is once again whisked off to the land of Oz on a whirlwind, so that she can skip along the Yellow Brick Road with familiar characters such as the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Lion, an extremely Wicked Witch and a Wonderful Wizard. The powerful new score is a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel and soul that provides inspiration for some electrifying dance numbers.
Beacons, Icons and Dykons presents an evening of performance inspired by and featuring the best moments from musical spectacular The Wiz. (Sidney Lumet, 1978). Starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor, the film retells the classic tale of the Wizard of Oz with an African American cast, where the Land of Oz is a fantasy version of New York City. A host of BID's favourites will punctuate the evening with performance as we show the film's best moments. Performers include Harold Offeh, who employs humour and explores aspects of contemporary culture, multidimensional artist and professional show-off Steve Nice, Paula Varjack who explores identity, the unsaid, and making the invisible visible and BID's very own Tom Marshman.
