Dr Longitude's Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie (Edinburgh Fringe)

Les Enfants Terribles are back and better than ever with their tales of Dr Longitude's Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie.

The company have ventured away from their traditionally darker stories such as The Trench and The Terrible Infants, and provided a slick family-friendly hour – children sitting around me were enthralled for the duration.

The menagerie of the title is a collection of weird and wonderful creatures that intrepid Dr Longitude has captured along on his travels to the, we're reliably informed, five corners of the globe.

Along with his esteemed colleagues – experts in natural sciences, of course – Dr Longitude, the self-professed "untrueologist" tells extraordinary tales of capturing beasts from the bumblewasp to massive paw (a rather cute little thing with giant feet), and they even eventually catch a glimpse of the elusive long-snouted chuffalump.

The production values of Les Enfants’ shows are always high, and special mention must go to Sam Wyer’s puppets and Joanna Scotcher’s impressive set. The company bring their trademark mixture of puppetry and Vaudevillian flair to the story, with a side dose of audience participation and catchy tunes.

There's a nice combination of good clean fun and more mature humour as well as a smattering of pop culture references, including a particularly funny UKIP joke. With just the right dose of nonsense, Dr Longitude’s Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie is enjoyable for adventurers of all ages.
