David Leddy’s Untitled Love Story

David Leddy’s promenade piece last year was an atmospheric and macabre tale performed with great ingenuity and superb nuance, so perhaps that set the bar a little high for this year’s outing.

Untitled Love Story is a theatre-based play set in Venice, and follows the parallel narratives of four lives – 1940s author, 1960s priest, 1970s art critic and 2010s PhD student. Meditation plays a key role and the audience spend a good proportion of the show with their eyes closed when not watching the stories played out on the minimalist set.

Whilst set in Venice the play never quite sets the atmosphere up in the way that Leddy has previously demonstrated so ably, and the four love stories of divergent nature tie up somewhat clumsily, though each being in their own way quite touching if in places somewhat raw.
