Confessions of a Mormon Boy

For most of us our experience of the Mormon church is confined to The Osmonds or the odd glimpse of the suited, booted and badged pairs of young men carrying out their missionary work on the streets of Britain.

Steven Fale‘s performs his powerful one man play about growing up as a Mormon and more specifically a gay Mormon. The play charts his struggle to reconcile his deeply held religious beliefs and his sexuality. It is a story that we have seen before but Fale’s raw energy adds a new dimension. There is a sense that his journey is far from over.

The Confessions, truthfully a tad long, is well-written and equally well performed. Fales is incredibly honest in his soul baring, which makes the story even more powerful and moving, as well as funny.

By the end, we know a lot more about the Mormon church and even more about the man.

The play will be seen in London from 5 September.
