Comedium

If you didn’t know that, according to all the laws of physics, telepathy is impossible, you would leave Peter Antoniou’s mind-reading show convinced you had just witnessed the supernatural.

As it is, you may have to remind yourself that he simply cannot ‘hear’ a song someone else is thinking – because he sure as heck gets it right every time. It’s the kind of experience that has complete strangers turning to gasp at each other as they scramble to compute it.

Naturally, as the gig involves reading other people’s minds, the audience gets involved, but not in a way that will terrify or offend shrinking violets – darkest secrets remain unexposed. Antoniou is warmly likeable, and maintains a reassuring patter of self-deprecating jokes throughout. It’s not stand-up; the comedy’s more of a lubricant than an end in itself. It’s the showmanship you come for; and prepare to be flabbergasted. This is a room that deserves to be packed until the end of August.
