Absolutely Amazing Adventures of the Singing Acupuncturist

It’s horrible when your parents are right.
What must be worse is when your parents tell you not to
perform a show in Edinburgh because you’re not talented
enough, so you try to prove them wrong – and in the process
you prove them right! This show is far from absolutely
amazing, it feels like an hour long performance of a car
crash audition from The X Factor.

Olivia’s show has little structure or
narrative to it; she attempts to play a number of
characters, all of which are impossible to differentiate.
These characters only serve as a device to regurgitate
self-help nonsense and shoe horn a list of songs with the
word ‘dream’ in the title that come off more like bad
karaoke.

She spends the hour trying to convince herself that
if you keep trying at something you can make it and there’s no
such word as ‘impossible’, as she strives to achieve her ambition of performing at the O2
“like Leona Lewis”.

The sad truth is, there is such a word
as ‘impossible’ and it would be impossible to get me to put
myself through this show again.
