Abi Roberts Takes You Up the Aisle

It’s been a matrimony-mad year, and Abi Roberts has the love bug. All singing, occasionally dancing, with tales to tell of romance, divorce and internet dating, she bursts down her flower lined ‘aisle’ like K-Midd probably wishes she could have.

Through, as Roberts puts it, the coming together of comedy and matrimony in holy union – but with more song than that implies – we accompany her, undies-clad, through drunken lows to Jimmy Choo wedding shoe highs, via dolphin-marred dating tangents.

Undeniably warm-hearted, by the time she wriggles into her (real) wedding dress you feel a little like you’ve been to the pub, got drunk together and heard her life story. There are more tickled chuckles than belly laughs, but her original songs, belted out in gleeful cabaret-style, range from moving to disco-fantastic (sample title: “Every Girl Needs A Gay Best Friend”). Irreverent and brilliant at impressions, despite occasional slight awkwardness her genuine lovebird joy can’t help but charm.
