Pedestrian

Pedestrian is like a surreal take on the Hitchhiker’s Guide, but to the shopping precinct.

Tom Wainwright is quite mesmerising, entertaining, and amusing as the man trapped on the conveyor belt of a pedestrianised shopping precinct. Whilst reliving a recurring dream of being pursued by a giant goldfish, he places a spotlight on what the British public have become – bystanders reluctant to engage with what is important, preferring to keep their heads down and shop. In this one hour and ten minute stream of consciousness he navigates what could be any high street in any town, encountering numerous characters along the way, including chuggers, office workers out for their lunchtime sandwich, the homeless, and even Jesus!

Tom Wainwright has written a highly original and challenging piece of theatre and delivers an incredible solo performance, visually expressive and full of energy.
