Djupid (The Deep)

When an ailing 300 ton fishing trawler is far from home in deep and icy waters, the sole survivor is forced to confront his own mortality, reflect upon the life that he has lived, relationships with friends and family, a romance that might have been, and his wishes and regrets. This leads him to ask aloud to return home for one more day, not for himself but for those that he has lost and is leaving.

Liam Brennan delivers a powerful and moving solo performance. His 45 minute monologue does not romanticise the man, instead his thoughts are honestly expressed, sometimes tenderly, sometimes with colourful language and humour.

Djupid (The Deep), written by Icelandic playwright Jon Atli Jonasson and translated into broad Scots vernacular by Graeme Maley requires you to ‘tune in your ear’ but is well worth the effort.
