Clint’s Reality

According to Aireborne Theatre’s latest production, reality TV is “the nation’s
new drama.” Based around a parody of Simon Cowell, the play spends an evening
with Clint Resolute (Eddie Evans), a powerful TV executive responsible for
feeding a nation hungry for the cheap thrills of reality shows. The piece
attempts to construct a modern day farce around the PR-dependant world of a TV
mogul, and is a reasonably entertaining hour.
The plot itself is an interesting idea, but needs further development; what
could have been a piece of razor-sharp farcical satire fell somewhat short of
expectations. Annoyingly, it is Clint himself (Evans) who is the production’s
weakest link; while his mannerisms give the impression of a smooth operator,
the delivery of his lines varies between quite loud and really unnecessarily
loud. However, Nent (Luke Murphy) saves the production as Clint’s panicky PR agent,
creating moments of genuine hilarity and ensuring that Clint is carried along
by the rest of the ensemble in what is a perfectly fun way to spend an hour at
the festival.
