Made in Scotland Showcase 2017 programme announced

The programme for this year's Made in Scotland Showcase at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has been announced.

Now in its ninth year, the event presents music, dance and theatre from across the country, with Made in Scotland funding companies to go on and tour the world.

Adam, written by Frances Poet, will tell the story of a young trans man who begins his journey and travels from Egyt to Scotland. The piece will feature a 120-strong choir with trans individuals for the first time. Conceived and directed by Cora Bissett, the piece is presented by National Theatre of Scotland.

Police drama Stand By is about four riot police officers called out to a domestic dispute. It was written by Adam McNamara, a former police officer, and sees the four officers waiting to be called into a house where a man is wielding a samurai sword.

The Last Queen of Scotland explores Idi Amin's impact on Scotland. Amin ordered the expulsion of Ugandan-Asians from the country, and the play follows a Dundee woman returning to Uganda years later. Written by Jaimini Jethwa, the piece has a live soundtrack performed by Patricia Panther (composer of Glasgow Girls).

Turntable is a piece which started when MJ McCarthy and his great aunt Kathleen bonded by exploring each other's vinyl collections. Since then, the team have toured the case of vinyl, inviting people of all ages to listen to the records and reflect on the importance of music.

Scottish Dance Theatre will present TuTuMucky, a new work which 'celebrates revolt against social order', and is set to music by beat producer Torben Lars Sylvest.

The 25 shows will also include Echoes and Traces, eight new choral works by Cappella Nova, Gary McNair's Letters to Morrissey, and Scotland's Wild Heart, a folk-inspired piece by Donald Shaw.
