Local Cinders Goes To Ball At Aberdeen Panto

Aberdeen actress Sophie Boyne is to go to the ball at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen this Christmas in the title role of the 3D panto Cinderella.

Accompanying Cinders as the handsome Prince Charming will be fellow Aberdonian and old school pal Callum Nicol – while in the role of Buttons will be HMT regular Finn den Hertog who starred in the theatre’s Sunset Song last year and is currently on tour with the theatre’s present production of The Silver Darlings.

They will share the stage with one of Scotland’s best loved actresses Elaine C Smith, as the Fairy Godmother and Aberdeen panto favourites Alan McHugh and Jordan Young as Ugly Sisters, Roxy and Foxy.

A record number of over 32,000 tickets have already been snapped up for the pantomime, sponsored by the Evening Express, and an extra week has been added to the performance schedule to cope with the huge public demand.

It is being staged by the same Qdos Entertainment team that presented the record-breaking productions of Peter Pan and Aladdin at the theatre in the past two years.

Both Sophie and Callum have appeared onstage in Aberdeen before; Sophie previously performed in the Nutcracker with the Scottish ballet, the original Evita tour and in numerous pantomimes as a member of Aberdeen Academy of Dance, while Callum appeared in Jack and the Beanstalk at His Majesty’s Theatre.

“We are delighted to have two Aberdeen actors in lead roles in Cinderella and to welcome back Finn to the HMT stage again”, said Aberdeen Performing Arts press manager Joyce Summers.

“Together with the 3D special effects to add an extra touch of make-believe enchantment to what is a fairytale classic, Cinderella is already shaping up to be one of the greatest pantos in the history of HMT”.

Cinderella tickets are available online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall, His Majesty’s Theatre and The Lemon Tree.
