Show Overload

Hello there Lazy Sunday folk.

I am up (well if “up” equates being on my sofa watching Bridget Jones under a duvet with my friend Rhi-Rhi who is up from London for fun and japes!)

I am excited by the large amount of good things I have seen at this lovely old festival these past few days. I think I have seen 12 shows, which for me is good!

New Art Club come highly recommended (and not only by the Telegraph!) Their new show at Assembly is darling. Really funny, lots of nice joining in and genuinely great performers. Wired they were, in a lovely way.

Rhi Rhi is a choreographer so we had a dance day yesterday and are about to re-run the fun today. Yesterday’s dance pick was Agnes and Walter. Its finished at Zoo now but catch around the rest of the UK no doubt as it was WONDERFUL. A beautiful and simple tale with some amazing performances from an intergenerational cast of wonders. Dan Canham, friend and fellow fen dweller is also presenting his lovely solo at Forest Fringe for the next two weeks at 9pm each day. Well worth a look: 30 Cecil Street. Also Jack Webb and Gary Clarke double bill at Dance Base.

I also went to see the fab Suitcase Royal, and although I was tired (its late in Pleasance 2) I thought they were awesome. Love a good aussie boy anyway, but these guys musically and timing wise are sweet as.

This brings me on to my ultimate highlight thus far (apart from my own show of course, 7 Day Drunk, 8pm Assembly 3 blah blah blah!) AUDIENCE. Soho Theatre peeps told me to take a trip and it was so worth it. St Georges West, a fantastic mix of really european performance (too cool and good voices) and some seriously hard to watch audience goading and poking. I LOVED IT, wanted it to go further (perhaps because I am a live artist, I bray for blood) BUT lots of people hated it and walked out. If you like your theatre challenging and a bit arrogant, get there before it sells out!

So planned for the next week is a hike up Arthurs Seat with the East to Edinburgh gang, a Guardian Review (fingers crossed) and a long mother based visit. So to prepare, and to celebrate my night off tomorrow I am hitting the town tonight like i’ve never seen a martini olive before. More reports on where was good and who I saw tomorrow.

Big Love
