Five Reasons to See … Tricity Vogue’s Ukulele Cabaret
Cabaret star Tricity Vogue brings two shows to the Fringe this year; The Blue Lady Sings Back and a Ukulele Cabaret. On a mission to make the Ukulele everyone’s favourite four-stringed instrument, the cabaret includes sing-alongs and some of the best Ukulele talent around. Here’s why Vogue thinks you should come and join the fun.
1) The Uke of Edinburgh Awards!
Uke players compete nightly for this prestigious gong – competition will be fierce, performers will be plucked from the highest ranks of ukulele virtuosity, and celebrity judges will be plucked nightly from the audience. The Uke of Edinburgh itself, made from SOLID GOLD, will be worn nightly by Tricity Vogue, on her head, where award winners will be invited to play it.
2) The finest ukulele players in the land – nay, the world!
The roll call of acts appearing at the Ukulele Cabaret beggars belief. Great British ukulele stalwarts like Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer, Desmond O’Connor, Helen Arney and Sarah-Louise Young are joined by international acts from Australia, Los Angeles and New York, some of them so famous that we can’t reveal their names yet.
3) You can join in!
Every show will start and finish with a mass sing-along and strum-along, so bring your ukulele – or, if you haven’t got one, borrow one from us. We’ll give out songsheets complete with chord diagrams, so you can find out for yourself just how easy to play the ukulele really is. And whether or not you fancy a strum, you get to join in with a good old fashioned sing-song. Good for the lungs and good for the soul.
4) You can take home a kazoo – and a badge!
There is one instrument even easier to learn to play than the ukulele, and that’s the kazoo. Tricity has ordered in 1,000 monogrammed kazoos for anybody who fancies taking up an instrument they can carry in their back pocket. Tricity’s also bringing 1,000 “Ukulele Cabaret” pin badges, so that you can have a souvenir from the show to wear with pride.
5) It’s free!
That’s right, Tricity Vogue’s Ukulele Cabaret is part of the Laughing Horse Free Festival, which means you don’t have to buy a ticket. All you have to do is turn up. And if you like it enough to stay to the end, all you have to do is throw a couple of shiny pound coins in the bucket, and we’ll even let you out again.
