Five Reasons to See … The Kist

The Kist chronicles the best of Scots music, from Gaelic rhythms to modern pop. With influences from
around the world, wherever Scots have roamed, the show features young, new talent alongside
Grammy Award winner Marcus Hummon. Here’s why creator Fiona Kennedy thinks you should see the
show.

Aside from going to see The Kist to find shelter from Edinburgh’s inevitable rain, here are five reasons
to see this outstanding act.

1. The Music.

This is traditional Scottish music with a twist. Taking you on a journey from traditional to modern, such
as KT Tunstall and Paolo Nutini. The cast will also be joined by the grammy award-winner, Marcus
Hummon
who will show how Scotland has influenced styles around the world, like country music.

2. The pure Scottish-ness.

Whether you’re a Scot yourself or one of the many tourists flocking to Edinburgh during the festival, you
can’t help being taken over by The Kist‘s wonderful Scottish spirit and stories. The set, music, costumes
and performers – they are all native to this country.

3. The angelic Ruairidh MacDonald.

This 11 year star possesses a voice filled with such feeling that even the most cold-hearted of people
will be reaching for a hanky. But let’s not forget the rest of the cast, Fiona Kennedy has scoured the
country and found the absolute best in musical talent.

4. The fabulous costumes!

Tartan galore and Harris Tweed. The boys are in kilts and the girls are in rich-coloured tartan dresses,
and even knee high tartan boots! The costumes designer, Joyce Young’s collection The Tartan Spirit has
been showcased in New York and Los Angeles, and modelled by the likes of Kimberley Stewart.

5. Kistceltica.

After The Kist‘s run, for the last week of the festival Fiona Kennedy will transform the New Town
Theatre into vibrant, worldwide musical hub. Each night a range of Scottish, Celtic, country and jazz
performers will showcase their incredible talent each night.

The Kist is on at 21.00 at the New Town Theatre from 4-21 August.
