Brief Encounter With … Premature Ejokeulation’s The Antics

Following last year’s success, The Antics are back with Premature Ejokeulation, a raucous, interactive 50 minute comedy brawl, designed to keep their audience on their toes and in fits of laughter. With improvised games, some of which you won’t see anywhere else, The Antics build a show completely based on the most insane, or mundane, ideas audiences have to offer.

So how does your show differ from other Improv shows?

Well every performer should warm up before a show, and as we see the audience as part of the team, they need too as well. We get them shouting out things from the word go. We also think the fact that we have a cast of 10 people each with their own individual style and charm separates us from the rest. All having different backgrounds and interests means that their approach to use of language, characters, movement – things like that varies dramatically from one performer to the next. We have also worked hard this year on developing our own games that no-one will have seen before, which means that it isn’t just a ‘Whose Line…’ re-run. The classics are still there of course, but they are now a treat for audiences to witness amongst less familiar, but equally as entertaining games.

With more acts than ever this year, how will you stand out from the rest of the performers at the Festival?

Our t-shirts are bright orange, so that always helps. But seriously, we have worked so hard this year to engage with Fringe-goers both on and off stage. Using Twitter to promote the show and give away free tickets, creating a QR code on our eye-catching flyers to save people carrying needless shiny paper, and using innovative promotional techniques to bring Improv to the street, have all helped us to set our show apart from the rest. We learnt a lot from our previous Fringe experiences, so have taken that all on board and spent a long time discussing how to stand out in a crowded place.

The Antics – Premature Ejokeulation is on at C Venues – C from the 3-13 August at 16.45.
