Kat Portman – The End Is Nigh

So here we are at the last week of Edfringe, what does that really mean?
Well it means that we have a few awards and nominations under our belt, it means we have some sell out shows and it means that our days our slightly more manageable.

It also means that the month long bubble of the festival is starting to pop. This begins by colleague’s partners coming to stay and therefore the outside world being allowed into our Festival Highlights camp. Ah the cries of ‘What do you mean there are floods in Pakistan and a potential hung parliament in Australia, I’m still hoping for a Comedy Awards nomination!’ It is easy to lose perspective up here!

For me that bubble was very abruptly popped by a trip back to London and a production meeting at NIMAX about the shows at The Garrick for ‘Hit Me! The Life and Rhymes of Ian Dury.’ Yes there is life after Edinburgh. Oh yes and of course seeing my family again, how quickly you are brought back to earth by playing buses in the garden while dressed as Snow White (with my daughter not my husband that is).

As good as it is to be home for a few days to catch up with work and sleep, I can’t help but miss the festival as soon as I step off the train in London. The Fringe really is like nothing else in the world and to work in it in any capacity you just have to immerse yourself and live and breath it for the time you are here. Then you will love it.

So with family in tow I return tomorrow to our office in Edinburgh, which for the last week will be full of family and friends. Here’s hoping for some more lovely reviews for Festival Highlights shows, some more sell outs and I’ll dream of that Comedy Awards Nomination.
