Scottish independence satire I’m With the Band transfers to St James after Edinburgh

Tim Price‘s new show I’m With the Band, a satire on the upcoming Scottish independence referendum, will transfer to London’s St James Theatre immediately following its premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The show, co-produced by the Traverse Theatre and Wales Millennium Centre, centres on a dysfunctional rock group called The Union.

Made up of four members – an Englishman, a Northern Irishman, a Scotsman and a Welshman – the band is thrown into disarray when Scottish guitarist Barry leaves.

The production is directed by Traverse associate Hamish Pirie, who directed Tim Price’s Salt Root and Roe as part of the Donmar’s Trafalgar 2011 season. It features live music performed by the company, written by Gordon McIntyre.

The cast features James Hillier as Damien the Englishman, Declan Rodgers as Aaron the Northern Irishman, Andy Clark as Barry the Scotsman and Matthew Bulgo as Gruff the Welshman.

I’m With the Band runs at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh from 2 to 25 August and the St James Theatre, London from 28 August to 7 September. It will then embark on a UK Tour from 12 September to 19 October 2013.

Conrad Lynch, artistic director at Wales Millennium Centre said; “We are delighted to be bringing our first collaboration with Traverse Theatre to the West End directly from its world premiere in Edinburgh. We are also thrilled to be transferring this production to the wonderful St James Theatre, which is the perfect home for Wales Millennium Centre’s first London transfer.”
