Out of Joint co-produces Dawn King’s Ciphers, Blanche McIntyre directs

Award-winning playwright’s latest work will tour UK venues later this year, including a run at the Bush Theatre

Out of Joint, Bush Theatre and Exeter Northcott Theatre are co-producing the world premiere of Dawn King’s new play Ciphers later this year.

Blanche McIntyre directs the production, which begins a national tour at Exeter Northcott (16-19 October 2013), before touring to Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham (22–26 October), Tobacco Factory Theatre, Bristol (29 October–2 November), Oxford Playhouse (6-9 November), Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh (12-16 November), and Warwick Arts Centre (19-23 November).

In the New Year, Ciphers will have an extended London run at the Bush Theatre (14 January-8 February 2014), before visiting Salisbury Playhouse (11-15 February).

Ciphers is billed as “a smart and provocative thriller about spies, double agents, and the opaqueness of the human soul.”

The production will see King and McIntyre renew their collaboration, following their work together on King’s first play, the award-winning Foxfinder (Finborough) in 2011.

Out of Joint’s Max Stafford-Clark commented, “Since Blanche worked at Out of Joint as my associate in 2008, I have watched the extraordinary success of her glowing career with enormous interest and pride. I am delighted she is returning to Out of Joint to continue her excellent work with Dawn King.”

Artistic director of the Bush Theatre Madani Younis added, “‘I hugely admired Foxfinder and am delighted to be co-producing Dawn’s latest play Ciphers and welcoming the talented Blanche McIntyre back to the Bush to direct this time for our main stage.”
