A few of my favourite things: As You Like It's Simon Lipkin

Don’t let his rugged handsome looks mislead you, the actor includes Kermit, Dora and ”The Princess Bride” in his list of favourite things

From foul-mouthed puppets in Avenue Q, to a long haired rockstar in Rock of Ages, back to another foul-mouthed puppet in I Can't Sing! Simon Lipkin has been seen in a plethora of roles in recent years. Later this month he tackles the Bard as Touchstone in As You Like It at Southwark Playhouse.

We caught up with Simon to find out a few of his favourite things…

What/who is your favourite…

Film?

The Princess Bride, it's the perfect fantasy movie! Comedy, love, giants, Billy Crystal, and one of the best sword fights in cinema history! And no I'm not embarrassed that my favourite film has the word ‘princess’ in it…

Place to hang out in London?

Borough Market…I love food, all types – it's the food equivalent of Toys R Us… "There's millions!" says Geoffrey "All under one roof"!

Restaurant?

TGI Fridays, and I’d order nachos and Jack Daniels chicken strips. I'm not even sorry…

Holiday destination?

Florida! I'm a big kid so anywhere with theme parks makes me happy. Sure I could go to Thorpe Park, but they don't have Disney characters walking around and cowboy stunt shows.

Play/Musical that you have seen?

That's too hard to answer. I’ve seen so many amazing plays and musicals, hopefully the best one hasn't been written yet…….but Dora the Explorer Live! is definitely up there.

Theatre to visit?

Drury Lane Theatre, it's pretty beautiful and the loos are lovely

Theatre you’ve performed in?

The Palladium. It's steeped in the most incredible history. I feel very lucky to have worked on that stage…and the loos there are lovely too.

Actor/Actress?

Kermit the Frog. This needs no explanation

Moment in As You Like It?

Any scenes that I'm not in! The cast are pretty fantastic so it's a pleasure to sit and watch them be brilliant.

As You Like It runs at the Southwark Playhouse from 18 September – 18 October. For more information and to book tickets, click here.
