Maxwell Caulfield and Faye Tozer star in Singin’ in the Rain tour

Casting has been announced for the forthcoming UK tour of the WhatsOnStage Award-winning Chichester Festival Theatre production of Singin’ in the Rain.

As previously reported, the tour opens at Manchester Opera House on 13 November 2013 (previews from 9 November), playing a Christmas and New Year season in Cardiff before visiting cities across the UK.

The production will star Maxwell Caulfield as studio boss R.F. Simpson, Steps’ Faye Tozer and Coronation Street‘s Vicky Binns who share the role of starlet Lina Lamont, James Leece as Don Lockwood, Amy Ellen Richardson as Kathy Selden and Stephane Anelli as Cosmo Brown.

Caulfield, best known for his role as Mark Wylde in Emmerdale, said: “I am beyond thrilled to be hitting the road with Singin’ in the Rain. As a huge fan of the original movie, the chance to bring this story to life on stage is something I couldn’t pass up and it’ll be great visiting some of the beautiful theatres on the tour, some I’ve been to previously, some are going to be a brand new experience for me.”

The show, which is based on the iconic 1952 movie, centres on Don Lockwood, a silent movie star with everything he could want – fame, adulation and a well-publicised ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont. But Hollywood is about to change forever. There is rumour in the studio of a new kind of film, where the actors actually talk… and sing… and dance. Can Don and the uniquely voiced Lina make the transition and will chorus girl Kathy Selden fulfil her dream of stardom and capture Don’s heart along the way?

Singin’ in the Rain opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in summer 2011. It transferred to the West End’s Palace Theatre in February 2012, finishing its run last month (8 June 2013).

The show, which uses 12,000 litres of water per performance, features classic songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, including “Make ’em Laugh”, “Good Morning”, “Moses Supposes” and “Singin’ in the Rain”. Original screenplay and adaptations are by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.

After Manchester and Cardiff tour will visit: Sunderland, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Liverpool, Belfast, Dublin, Plymouth, Milton Keynes, Birstol, Glasgow, Bradford and Southampton.

Singin’ in the Rain is produced by Stage Entertainment UK in association with Chichester Festival Theatre.
