This highly sensual, dark and compelling production certainly has gained much attention prior to its arrival at Bristol Old Vic. Having been lauded by critics since its premiere and subsequently bestowed with the coveted South Bank Sky Arts Award for Dance in 2014.

This is an extraordinary creation, a heady mix of musical styles; some of which composed by Mark Bruce allows a contrast of storytelling by the superb cast headed by Jonathan Goddard in the title role.

The production is true to the original tale by Bram Stoker, the darkness, both physical and emotional is embodied through the superb vision of set designer Phil Eddolls, lighting designer Guy Hoare and costume designer Dorothee Brodruck. The use of puppetry and masks from pickled image]add both beauty and terror to the proceedings.

Rarely has dance and storytelling achieved the eroticism of the gothic novel and the bravery of this production is breathtaking and mesmerising. It challenges the audience and yet finds time for comedy and moments of lightness which sharpens the contrasts further.

This is a highly emotive piece, understandably recommended for 13+. Mark Bruce shows us Dracula walking amongst us all; morphing to suit the world around him and by doing so has devised a powerhouse of a production which should not be missed.
