Star Wars and Game of Thrones actor Julian Glover is to star in a new production of Julius Caesar.

The actor will take on the titular role in Shakespeare's play alongside a cast of graduates from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Lynn Farleigh will also appear in the production, which follows in the footsteps of last year's King Lear, which starred Tim West, where professional actors and recent graduates work side-by-side.

Glover said: "I’m hoping the students may find some of my experiences useful to them as they start their own careers and may in turn teach me a thing or two." The production will run from 9 June to 1 July.

Elsewhere in the season Emma Rice returns to her hometown with her production of The Little Matchgirl and other Happier Tales, which ran in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse last year. The play uses puppetry to give a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale and will run in November.

Theatre company 1927 return to the Bristol Old Vic with their production of Golem as part of an international tour in May, while Headlong's People, Places and Things opens at the theatre in October following its run at the National Theatre and in the West End.

Kneehigh will also bring its productions of Tristan and Yseult as well as The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk to Bristol Old Vic in July and August respectively.
